URC designs mechanical assemblies, electrical controls and software for robot cells.

Generally these services would be for a turn-key cell purchased from URC but we do design and build sub-assemblies separately for our robot customers.

Design Services

URC has extensive experience in designing many different types of robot applications.  We are fast and efficient, with competitive rates!  We support the following types of applications for robots:

  • Plastic Injection Press tending
  • CNC machine loading, multi-machine tool systems

  • Material removal (routing, drilling), plastic and non-metal materials

General Engineering & Peripherals

Need a basic robot cell layout?  A table design or a part shuttle?  URC will design and fabricate these items you.  Some of the items we provide include:

  • 3D Robot cell layout in HandlingPRO for testing and programming
  • Robot cell layout, equipment placement for installation in CAD
  • Robot risers and mobile platforms
  • Part shuttles (linear and rotary) up to 700 LB capacity
  • Feeding, escape and location devices
  • Fixture tables
  • Fixtures

Electrical

Need an electrical interface for the robot or the machine tools?  A robot end-effector junction box?  URC will design and fabricate these items for you.  Some of the items we provide include:

  • Robot cell electrical layout
  • CNC machine interface signals and junction boxes
  • Robot I/O assignments and wiring
  • Robot tool end-effector interface junction boxes
  • Fixture table and fixture electrical interfaces with junction boxes

Robot Tools

URC designs and builds robot grippers for robot CNC part loading, robot palletizing, robot material handling and robot router cells.  

Innovative designs for handling multiple parts at the same time.  Compliance for the gripper.   Collision sensors to prevent damage to equipment.   Intelligent use of sensors to facilitate part handling.   Quick change tooling.   URC has the experience to integrate these designs into your robot applications!

Anyone can sell you a robot.  URC's well designed robot tooling insures the success of your robot project!  We use off the shelf robot tool components and build them into a package that is ready to be mounted on the robot and handle your part.

When we design a tool for your robot system, here are the services and equipment that we can provide for you:

  • Robot tool design for handling one or more parts at a time
  • Complete fabrication and assembly of the tool
  • Quick disconnect sensors for part presence and gripper state
  • Applied Robotics collision sensor for protecting tool during setup and operations
  • Parallel or angular gripper bodies by PHD for ID and OD gripping
  • Vacuum grippers for gripping of flat surfaces
  • Air bladder grippers for ID and OD picks
  • Lateral and rotational compliance devices for gripping tool
  • End-effector junction box pre-wired for robot and tool, with valves and regulator
  • Special sensor interfaces for gauging distance and part presence
  • Robot software sub-routines for running the tool from the application program

Robot Programming

When the system is properly installed, we can write the original robot program and teach the robot path.   This includes:

  • Off-line programming in HandlingPRO
  • Write and load original robot program for robots
  • Install and configure I/O 
  • Robot tool and peripheral device sub-routines
  • Set robot Tool Center Point (TCP)
  • Set robot safety reference position and write sub-routine for safe program start
  • Teach robot path for optimal cycle time and safe motion
  • Debug and test original program
  • Documentation and backup of program

All designs provided to the Customer are the property of Universal Robot Controls &  Automation and cannot be used on other projects without written permission or compensation to URC Automation.
